In previous seasons (2022–2024), Starlink worked reliably on yachts during kite safaris in the Red Sea. Many crews and guests used it for stable internet access while sailing between islands.
However, since 2025 the situation has changed. Regular Starlink terminals currently do not work in Egypt.
The only version that still functions in this region is Starlink Maritime. This system is designed for commercial vessels and yachts operating offshore.
The main issue is cost. Starlink Maritime is extremely expensive, both for the hardware and the monthly subscription. Because of this, very few operators in the Red Sea actually use it.
If our guests require high-speed satellite internet, we can install Starlink Maritime on the yacht for an additional fee. This must be arranged in advance because the equipment and subscription costs are significant.
For most kite safari guests, however, this level of connectivity is simply unnecessary.
In Hurghada, mobile internet works quite well.

Many hotels, cafés, and kite stations also provide Wi-Fi, although speeds can vary depending on the location.
For most travelers spending time in Hurghada, internet access is not a problem.
Once we leave the marina and sail to the islands, the situation changes.
Just two years ago there was almost no mobile connection at sea during kite safaris.
Today the situation has improved slightly. When the yacht is not too far from the mainland, it is sometimes possible to catch a weak mobile signal from coastal towers.

However, the connection is not stable enough for serious online work. Video calls, large uploads, or cloud-based work usually do not function consistently.
It should be viewed as basic connectivity rather than full internet access.
Many of the islands we visit during a kite safari are completely uninhabited.
These islands are part of protected areas in the Red Sea and have no infrastructure:
